I tried Method 2 and the troubleshooter discovered the problem with the 2 types of drivers and went back and forth asking permission to fix them, which I agreed to, but nothing changed.
I previously tried Method 3 which is where I got the message saying "The best driver software for your device is already installed". The first article didn't provide any new information. The second article suggested running Windows Update again and I got the following errors. This is a separate issue but maybe it's related. Thanks for your suggestions and for helping with this. As far as the UpperFilters entry, do you happen to recall what data was there before it was deleted? It's possible that "method 2" suggested above may have done this, but it can't hurt to try again. As you suggested I just uninstalled all the Host Controllers again and doing a 'Scan for hardware changes' immediately put them all back.
